Jr. Backend Developer

We're hiring a Jr. Backend Developer to build and maintain REST APIs, databases and backend services with Node.js, for an enthusiast who takes pride in clean, reliable systems. (Also relevant if you're a Full Stack Developer, Backend Engineer, API Developer, Node.js Developer, Server Side Developer, or Backend Software Engineer)

Role Overview

You'll help build APIs, databases, and backend services for web apps and SaaS platforms used by professionals across Western markets. Under senior developers, you'll turn requirements into working backend logic, and learn how production grade systems get designed, secured, and shipped.

This role is for a genuine enthusiast, the kind of person who builds side projects for fun, breaks things to understand them, and can't wait to ship something real.

Focus Areas

API & Database Development

  • Design and build REST APIs using Next.js route handlers
  • Design database schemas and write migrations (Prisma + Supabase Postgres, or Firebase/MongoDB depending on project)
  • Debug and optimize database queries across relational (Postgres) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Firestore) databases
  • Write server side validation logic (Zod) for incoming requests

Auth & Security

  • Implement authentication and session handling (Supabase Auth, Firebase Auth, or custom JWT)
  • Set up and maintain access control and security rules (RLS in Supabase, Firebase Security Rules, or equivalent)
  • Practice basic security awareness (SQL injection, input sanitization, NoSQL injection)

Integration & Collaboration

  • Integrate third party APIs and webhooks
  • Write basic logging and error handling for backend services
  • Collaborate with frontend teammates to define API contracts
  • Participate in code review and maintain clean, documented code

Requirements

  • - Solid grasp of TypeScript and Node.js
  • - Working knowledge of Supabase, Firebase, or MongoDB, with real project or portfolio experience

  • - Understanding of REST API design and third party API/webhook integration
  • - Basic security awareness across SQL and NoSQL contexts
  • - Comfort with Git and PR based workflows
  • - Strong debugging, problem solving, and a real drive to learn
  • - Comfortable using and exploring AI tools in your development workflow
